Design and build
The Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G brings a sleek glass design. Unlike most phones these days the back isn’t curvy but totally flat. It basically has the same looks as a regular Mi 11 Lite 5G. Except that the 5G version has a matte finish so you can tell the two apart. From a distance, it would be impossible to discern. At least if you’re confused, you can read the names on the back. The phone is super light for its size just around 160 grams. Its glossy plastic frame is rounded and offers a secure grip.
You won’t get any waterproofing here though unlike some of Xiaomi’s other midrange phones. There are no headphones jack on the Mi 11 Lite 5G or the 4G version either. You’ll need to use a dongle or connect your headphones wirelessly. There’s a bottom-firing speaker and the other doubles as an earpiece. The quality is decent.
Performance
Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G runs on a powerful Qualcomm SM7350-AB Snapdragon 780G chipset, which is built on a 5 nano process. This is the most powerful Snapdragon and 700 series chip you can get on paper. And furthermore, in CPU tests the Mi 11 Lite 5G tops the midrange charts. It even bests the likes of the Poco X3 Pro with a Snapdragon 860. This all and then to add more to it, an Adreno 642 GPU which is also right up there with some of the best-performing GPUs. This phone is one capable mid-ranger that can handle anything you can throw at it.
Platform
You get 128 or 256 gigs of storage onboard, which is expandable via micro SD. The interface of Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G is MIUI 12 over Android 11. It’s the same interface we’ve seen on Xiaomi phones for quite a while. Now one cool feature is support for super wallpapers which zoom and move as you navigate through different parts of the UI.
You have support for an app drawer to hold and also organize all of your apps. MIUI 12 can split your notification shade into a separate notification center and a control center. The IR blaster turns this phone into a remote control for certain appliances. Plus the phone has support for NFC for your contactless payments and connectivity.
Display – AMOLED, 1B colors, HDR10+, 90Hz
The Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G’s display is a 6.55 inch AMOLED with a 1080P resolution and a fast 90 Hertz refresh rate. That 240 Hertz touch sampling rate to smooth out your swiping and scrolling. The 5G version has HDR 10 plus support and is protected by Gorilla Glass 6. Content looks gorgeous on this panel and plenty sharp. Plus you have support for 10-bit color. Brightness is quite bright here, great can we say at around 510 nits with the slider and it boosts up to 840 knits in auto mode when out in the bright sun.
For audio, the Mi 11 Lite 5G has a pair of hybrid stereo speakers. There is something like an always-on display here showing you time and notifications without needing to unlock the phone. However, it’ll only appear if you tap the screen and disappear after a few seconds. Otherwise, you can just unlock the phone directly using the side-mounted fingerprint reader.
Cameras
All right, let’s move on to the cameras. These are the exact same cameras you see on the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 4G. There’s a 64-megapixel quad bear main camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 5-megapixel tele-macro camera that has autofocus. Photos from the main camera come out at 16 megapixels by default. They are stellar for this class. There is great resolved detail and punchy colors balanced sharpness, low noise, and a wide yet natural-looking dynamic range.
Portraits look amazing if you have enough light with plenty of detail and nice colors. The edge detection does a decent job though. The eight-megapixel photos from the 8 MP, f/2.2, 119˚ (ultrawide), 1/4.0″, 1.12µm are decent for the class with good contrast and a wide dynamic range. Close-up shots taken with the 5 MP, f/2.4, (macro), AF are pretty good. You get nice contrast and looking colors.
Selfies and video
Selfies are taken with a 20-megapixel front-facing camera. These are great. They are some of the most well-balanced and natural-looking selfies. Video can be shot with the main camera and up to 4k at 30fps with excellent quality. Their support for EIS too. The ultra-wide records, 1080p videos, and these are okay for this class. Just like the flagship Xiaomi Mi 11, the Lite 5G version supports special video modes. You can play around with these including magic zoom, slow shutter, time freeze, and the inception-like parallel world. Arguably the most useful effect is the night mode TimeLapse. It stitches together night mode photos into a striking 4k video.
Battery
Powering the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G is a Li-Po 4250 mAh battery. And even though this is smaller than what you’d find in many other phones at and below this price range, the battery life is still great. With the included 33 watt charger, the charging speed is still pretty fast. You will be able to charge the phone from zero to 58% in half an hour.
