Intro
The Redmi 8A which Xiaomi released in 2019, September 30 is now looked upon as the predecessor of both the Redmi 9C and Redmi 9A. The 8A was, and still is a great budget option costing around 11,500 shillings in Kenya. Like its successor, it has a 5000 mAh battery, 2GB RAM, 32GB storage, and is a 4G powered smartphone. The main difference between Redmi 8A and 9C lies in the cameras and display sizes.
Performance
We always talk about the performance of a phone with respect to the phone’s hardware and software features. With Xiaomi Redmi 9C comes Android 10 with the all-new MIUI 12. MIUI is an Android-based operating system for smartphones and tablet computers developed by Xiaomi. The phone is also powered by an Octa-core 2.3 GHz Cortex-A53, MediaTek Helio G35 (12 nm) chipset. Helio 35 brings the benefits of HyperEngine technology, providing smooth performance, enhanced power efficiency, and reliable, low-latency connections. Onboard is also a PowerVR GE8320 (680 MHz) GPU.
Lasting battery
One major advantage of many budget smartphones in Kenya is that they come with large battery capacities. Take Nokia C1 for example which comes with what seems to be a small 2500 mAh battery. Yet the same is able to last up to two days of usage. This is because of the minimal requirements and optimized performance the phone has.

This also is the case here, and better. Xiaomi Redmi 9C comes with a large 5000 mAh battery. Samsung Galaxy M11 likewise. At 5000 mAh you get the most out of any phone before the next charge is required.
Xiaomi Redmi 9C cameras
Like the Samsung Galaxy A30s, Xiaomi Redmi 9C also comes with four cameras. Three on the back which is the main shooter and one front-facing lens, alias, selfie camera. The main camera here is a 13 MP, f/1.8, (wide), a 5 MP, f/2.4, (macro), and a 2 MP, f/2.4, (depth). Glad to see Xiaomi involve itself in the frenzy of adding more (necessary) lenses. Another option of the 9C would be Redmi 9A which has a single camera (13 MP) module, check it out. And then there was that 5 MP selfie shooter which is at best, fine. Video recording is 1080p@30fps with either camera.
Connectivity
If you are on a slim budget but are looking for a phone with a micro-USB 2.0, USB On-The-Go, Bluetooth 5.0, and 4G network, then Xiaomi Redmi 9C would be a great option, to begin with. The phone also has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, hotspot, GPS with A-GPS, and yes, an Infrared port. That 3.5mm jack is also present wherein you can plug the headphone and listen to your favorite content. Be sure to also check out Xiaomi Redmi 9.
