What’s new with Galaxy Note 20 Ultra?
First of all, Samsung has teamed up with Microsoft to bring optimized cloud gaming on the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. This makes it the first smartphone in the world to feature special optimizations for Microsoft’s project X cloud game streaming service. Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is a gaming phone that can be used to play more than 90 Xbox gaming titles via the Xbox game pass. Again, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra will also be the first handset to offer the Corning Gorilla Glass 7 protection. The phone arrives in Mystic Bronze, Mystic Black, and Mystic White colors.
Brilliant Note 20 Ultra’s display
Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra comes with a brilliant 6.9 inches, Dynamic AMOLED 2X capacitive touchscreen. It measures 115.4 cm2 and has approx. ~90.7% screen-to-body ratio. Of course, the Always-on display is present here. It is a feature that shows limited information while the phone is asleep and the display is also an HDR10+ one. What is also present here is a high 120Hz@FHD/60Hz@QHD refresh rate, and for the first time in any smartphone ever Corning Gorilla Glass 7 protection.
HDR10+ is an HDR (High Dynamic Range) format created by Samsung designed to expand on the HDR10 format by allowing for dynamic metadata to continuously tweak the display settings so that you’re always seeing the most and best color possible. The resolution count here is 1440 x 3200 pixels and the PPI count is 508 PPI density which is on the higher side than the 393 PPI density on Note 20. The Note 20 Ultra has a brilliant display we can all agree on that. See also Samsung Galaxy Note 10 5G‘s screen and specs.
Platform
There were (as at the time of this writing) speculations that Samsung was working on the Android 11 update for Galaxy S20. A member of the XDA Developers community had spotted Android 11 mentioned as the latest OS version for the Galaxy S20 Ultra on Samsung’s official firmware version tracker, suggesting that early development has kicked off. But still, these were just speculations. Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra comes running Android 10 with One UI 2.1. It seems like the brief given to Samsung’s software design team for One UI 2.1 was simple: Improve existing functionality and add new features that prove to be useful.
Performance
Depending on where you buy the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, you will either get the Exynos 990 (7 nm+), otherwise Qualcomm SM8250 Snapdragon 865 (7 nm+) version. According to Versus, these two chipsets are at par both with big. LITTLE technology and effective use of Heterogeneous Multi-Processing. But with CPU speed Qualcomm SM8250 Snapdragon 865+ boasts an upper hand. Samsung saw the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra comes with these storage options: 256GB with 12GB RAM, and 512GB with 12GB RAM. Interestingly there is room for storage expansion on Galaxy Note 20 Ultra via micro SD (uses shared SIM slot).
Speaking of CPU speed. The Global version of Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is powered by an Octa-core (2×2.73 GHz Mongoose M5 & 2×2.50 GHz Cortex-A76 & 4×2.0 GHz Cortex-A55) CPU while the USA version, Octa-core (1×2.84 GHz Kryo 585 & 3×2.42 GHz Kryo 585 & 4×1.8 GHz Kryo 585). The same is the case with GPU as we see Mali-G77 MP11 and Adreno 650 respectively – see also Samsung Galaxy Note 20. By the way. The storage of Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is of UFS 3.1 infrastructure. UFS 3.1 is 3 times faster than UFS 3.0. The performance here will be blazing fast.
Camera module
This was how Samsung spoke about the camera of the Note 20’s predecessors. “We packed powerful pro-grade technology in your pocket with the Galaxy Note10‘s multi-camera system, giving you the power to go from shoot to edit instantly.” This time, with the Note 20 Series it is even better. Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra comes with a triple camera setup with a single front-facing camera. The main camera is 108 MP, f/1.8, 26mm (wide), 1/1.33″, 0.8µm, PDAF, Laser AF, OIS lens. Then there is an f/3.0, 103mm (periscope telephoto), 1.0µm, PDAF, OIS, 5x optical zoom, 50x hybrid zoom lens. The third and final lens is a 12 MP shooter with f/2.2, 13mm (ultrawide), 1/2.55″, 1.4µm, PDAF, and Super Steady video.
Let us back up for a moment. When the Galaxy S20 Series was released, 8K@24fps video recording was a big talking point although it wasn’t received with so much enthusiasm. But Samsung has stuck with it here also, which is great by the way given you can still choose the video quality even 4K@30/60fps, 1080p@30/60/240fps, and so on. Whilst recording you also get access to HDR10+, stereo sound rec., gyro-EIS & OIS. The selfie camera of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is a 10 MP, f/2.2, 26mm wide shooter. You may also want to check out Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra‘s cameras. Video recording with the selfie camera is also up to 4K@30/60fps.
Battery
As for the battery and its capacity, Samsung Note 20 Ultra has a large 4500 mAh battery. It is non-removable of course, with quite some power-packed features when it comes to charging speeds. Just to mention them quickly – fast charging 45W, 50% in 30 min, USB Power Delivery 3.0, fast Qi/PMA wireless charging 15W, and reverse wireless charging 9W. Reverse wireless charging gives you the power to share your battery and charge your Galaxy Watch or Galaxy Buds+ with ease. It works with Qi-certified devices, which is a common standard, so as long as the device can be charged via Qi, you’re able to give it some power from your phone.
More features
Other features of Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra you might be interested to know include these. Stylus, 9ms latency (Bluetooth integration, accelerometer, gyro), IP68 dust/water resistance (up to 1.5m for 30 mins), and Samsung Pay (Visa, MasterCard certified). There is also USB 3.2 Type-C 1.0, Samsung Wireless DeX, Fingerprint (under display, ultrasonic), Bixby natural language commands, and dictation. The phone is available in colors Mystic Green, Mystic Bronze, and Mystic Gray. You may also want to check out OnePlus 8 Pro.
