Design and build
The Xiaomi 12 Pro’s design is quite nice. Rather than going for contrasting accents, you get a sleek uniform look. The glass back tapers into the phone’s aluminum frame, and the finish is silky smooth. You’ll see an interesting touch on the camera bump, which has lines separating the different camera modules. For some reason, this phone has no IP rating against water and dust which some might consider a deal-breaker. But really how many times do you put your phone in water? Although it is important to note that competitors and even Xiaomi’s mid-rangers do have an IP rating. You can wake up and unlock the Xiaomi 12 Pro with the optical under-display fingerprint reader which is fast and reliable.
Top-Notch Display
The display of the Xiaomi 12 Pro is a curved 6.73 inches AMOLED with Gorilla Glass Victus protection, a QHD resolution, and a high 120 Hertz refresh rate. The resolution is quite sharp coming out up to 521 PPI. And content looks crisp and clear. Blacks are super deep because of the AMOLED technology and you have support for HDR 10+ as well as Dolby vision. Profiles under color settings will help you achieve even more accurate colors on this flagship display. For the refresh rate, note that this phone can dial down the refresh rate based on your activity to save energy. Xiaomi claims you can go all the way down to 1 Herz.

There’s also a really fast 480 Hertz touch sampling rate here for better responsiveness. It’s a useful feature for gamers. Side by side with the display performance is the audio. And the Xiaomi 12 Pro has stereo speakers with one at the bottom and the other, which outputs sound through both the earpiece and a grill at the top. The speakers have Harman Kardon branding because they are tuned by the Samsung company.
Cameras
Onto the cameras of the Xiaomi 12 Pro. It has a 50-megapixel main camera with OIS, a 50 megapixel telephoto with 2x zoom, and a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera. Daylight photos from the main camera are really good. There’s an abundance of detail and processing is balanced. The colors are lively and the dynamic range is excellent. The telephoto maintains that expert-level performance with its shots has very good detail and dynamic range. And the 12 Pro’s portrait mode relies on the telephoto camera capture. The ultra-wide camera does a good job almost up to the same standard as the other two cameras. Its photos are perfectly acceptable.
And in lowlight situations, 12 Pro will automatically apply night mode processing by default. And all its three rear cameras can record video and up to 4K@30/60fps. And the main cam can go up to 8K@24fps (HDR). 4k videos from the main camera are good with a dynamic range nicely wide. Electronic stabilization is available for all three cameras and the smoothness is praiseworthy. And finally, in not so many words, the 32 MP, f/2.5, 26mm (wide), 0.7µm selfie of Xiaomi 12 Pro is an award-winning lens if you ask me. It would have sure carried the day if it could also shoot 4K videos. But now, only 1080p@30/60fps. It is a decent front-facing camera nonetheless.
Performance
The Xiaomi 12 Pro runs on the new Qualcomm SM8450 Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 flagship chipset. It’s built on the 4-nanometer processor and provides blazing-fast performance. Gaming and multitasking are no problem here. And you even get 5G connectivity. With the Xiaomi 12 Pro, there are options for 128 or 256 GB of storage onboard. But it’s not expandable. The interface of the phone is MIUI 13 running on top of Android. 12. It is not the regular OS really but still, it is pretty straightforward and comparable to both the previous version which ran on Android 11. There are some subtle changes coming from Android 12 though. For example, there’s the green indicator that appears when an app is accessing the mic or one of the cameras. And you can set your location to be approximate rather than precise.
Battery
The Xiaomi 12 Pro has a 4600 mAh, a non-removable battery which isn’t the largest capacity if we are being honest. The phone is able to score just a 74-hour endurance rating in battery tests. Charging speed though is incredibly fast. Thanks to the huge 120-watt adapter that comes in the box with it. The speeds are as follows: 100% in 18 minutes and wireless charging 50W, 100% in 42 minutes.
